5 Ways to Survive the Cold, Harsh Winter

Posted by Melissa Mott on

Winter finally hit, and it hit hard. And I’m having trouble coping. I blame it on the fact that it was 70 degrees on Christmas day and I didn’t have to wear any type of jacket all year long until now. Surviving winter can be tough, but surviving a winter that you thought may never actually happen is even harder.

Here are my tips on how to survive winter.

1. Light a Candle

It’s any winter phobic’s go-to pick. Whether it’s a fruity scent that reminds you of the summer or just that little bit of warmth it gives off, lighting a simple candle is much better than feeling like (or remembering) you’re in the arctic.

2. Find a Comfy Place to Hibernate

Grab your blanket and head over to your bedroom since this will be the only place you’ll be from January through February. Is your bed not so comfy or is your entire set just an eyesore? Time to update! Turn your bedroom into a cozy retreat that will help you survive winter.

3. Pick a Few Pillows

Now that you have your bed and blanket, the only other necessity you’re missing is a pillow! You’ll need something to rest your head on so you won’t be so stiff after lying in your bed all day. Picking out some pretty ones isn’t such a bad choice, either, since you’ll probably keep them around for longer than just a few months.

4. Cozy Up by the Fireplace

Media units that double as electric fireplaces are amazing because you can put them in either your bedroom or living room and neither will look out of place. In this case, you’ll probably want it in your master bedroom, standing right underneath your TV that will be streaming Netflix for two months straight.

5. Update Your Dining Area

As much as you may not want to believe it, you will have to sometimes leave your bedroom, but only to eat so you can actually survive this. Make your kitchen better than any restaurant. That way, you won’t ever feel like you’ll be missing out by not going out to eat! All you’ll need now is someone who’s willing to cook. But eating takeout on a nice new dining set can’t hurt, either.
