Top 10 Beach Bungalow Decor Ideas

Posted by Alicia Pileggi on

In honor of this week's roll out of our Beach Bungalow Collection, for this issue of Kensington Style I have gathered all my favorite coastal decor must-haves for Summer 2016 as well as designer-approved style tips for getting a Pinterest-worthy coastal look in your home!

This summer, wicker isn't only for outdoors. Mixing a few key wicker pieces into your interior decor creates an instant shabby chic look that is perfect for coastal design. Whether getting your beach home ready for this summer or just trying to give your home a fresh look wicker is a great choice. Mix-and-match dining seating is a shabby-chic must right now, and these wicker chairs pictured above bring a little sea breeze to this dining set in a natural wood finish.

When it comes to getting Pinterest-worthy coastal decor in your home, it's really all about the details. When we talk about interior design we often get caught up thinking about the large items like a sofa or dining room set, but it's really about how you style these items.  Look for end tables with unique details like this beautiful captains wheel glass-top table pictured above with a rope base. Antiqued paint finishes on wood case pieces is another great detail to look for when adding a coastal feel to your living room.

Add texture with natural fibers like jute and woven sea grass. Try it on pillows to accent your sofa or try a woven jute rug. They are cost-efficient and instantly add a care-free coastal vibe to any room.

Beach Bungalow decor is all about the fun of summer and care-free vacation days. One staple for a fun coastal room where you want to have fun and entertain is a great bar. Hand-painted drawers featuring beach scenes are trending this summer and are a great way to add a little tropical paradise to your home! This gorgeous hand-painted bar above features a drop lid that reveals a mirror and stemware rack.

A good island is always great to have in the kitchen/dining area. Often doubling as counter space and dining area, the island is a home staple especially for summer entertaining. Add mismatched stools in bright fun colors to create a tropical bar where your friends can gather for drinks and food.

This summer try combining coral and aqua accents to get this gorgeous look in your home. Aqua is calming and serene while pops of coral add excitement. Not only is it fun and fresh, these colors are straight off the Pantone Color Predictions for this year in fashion.

One of the biggest concerns when decorating a beach home or a room where you plan to entertain often is the durability of upholstery. Summer brings wet swimsuits, drippy ice cream and popsicles, late night cocktails with clumsy friends, and the last thing you want to do is worry about the furniture instead of enjoying your summer bungalow. Sunbrella fabrics come in bright whites and gorgeous fun colors and prints perfect for a coastal look, and best yet, they are virtually indestructible.

Candles are an easy way to add summer color to a room. Mix and match styles and colors to create a summery focal point on your coffee table. Try using a crate or some old books as risers to add height to your display.

Who doesn't love a good nook? Why not try sprucing up a little corner with some coastal decor. Try an accent chair in a blue or green print paired with a shabby chic accent table. Finish it off with a sea shell paper weight or table topper and you have yourself the perfect little place to get away from it all right in your own home.

If you want to get a coastal look for the summer but aren't sure about having it throughout your entire home or even an entire room, pick a small area and deck it out. Creating a little focal spot will give the entire room a coastal feel but won't take over your decor or be too much of an investment of your time or money to put it together. Start with a super fun piece like this sea shell console table and then add beach-themed wall art and table toppers.
