When you hear the name Arianna Huffington, you may not instantly know who it is, but you might think of the ever-popular Huffington Post. If you made that connection—rightfully so! Arianna Huffington is a Greek-American author who co-founded the Huffington Post and is the editor-in-chief of the online news outlet. She has penned many books and has been named by Forbes as one of the most influential women in media.

Arianna Huffington's book The Sleep Revolution is a new release that was actually prompted by her last book titled Thrive. In Thrive, Huffington sought to redefine success through well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving. According to her website,

"Her discussion of the importance of sleep as a gateway to this more fulfilling way of living struck such a powerful chord that she realized the mystery and transformative power of sleep called for a fuller investigation."

And so The Sleep Revolution was born. In her book, Huffington explores sleep from a personal and scientific point of view. She talks about the sleep deprivation crisis that needs a sleep revolution to solve it. If we can have a healthier relationship with sleep we will have healthier lives, she asserts. Huffington discusses the effects of sleep deprivation on diabetes, weight gain, cancer, and heart disease.

Scientists have long been unable to pinpoint exactly why people need to sleep. But Huffington explains the latest science behind sleep and what is actually happening to our bodies while we sleep that is so essential.
